Gadget Show Live 2017 Cancelled?

Upper Street Events, the creators of the Gadget Show Live have announced they will no longer be running the Gadget Show Live 2017 at the NEC arena in Birmingham.

The news comes as a surprise to many people especially when the event last year was considered a great success.

March 2017 Update: We still haven't heard anything about Gadget Show Live so assuming it isn't happening this year. Fingers crossed for 2018!

What Is the Gadget Show Live?

Since the event was originally launched in 2009 the Gadget Show Live show has become the most successful technology exhibition in the UK. Over the lifetime of the event the Gadget Show Live has won 6 industry awards including the best consumer show at both the AEO and exhibition news awards.

In addition to the 8 shows at the NEC in Birmingham there were also two Christmas editions of the event at the famous ExCeL centre in London. The show has attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors to the exhibition over the previous years but it looks like the organisers have decided to call it quits.

Why Was it Cancelled?

The director of Upper Street Events, Isobel Dennis, said “We have found in recent years that our exhibitors are beginning to look to other way to show their products”. She also went on to say that was the main reason they have decided not to run the Gadget Show Live 2017.

Although the Gadget Show Live event might be cancelled Upper Street Events have said they are working on “other opportunities” within the technology sector. This most likely means they are working on a new technology show which could replace the Gadget Show Live.

One of their newest events is the Technology Showcase at Westfield which had its first year back in 2015. The event focuses on showing the latest technology from a range of brands including Jaguar Land Rover, Epson, HIVE and Lycamobile.

In addition to this even, Upper Street Events have also announced that they are about to launch a new exhibition based on the consumer electronics industry. Although no details have be released as yet, we are expecting more information to come nearer the events date.

Hi Mary, have been coming to the show for the past 4 years . However, last years show was showing signs of a decline in exhibitors and was disappointing. I would like to see it come back though.

I'm both sad & disappointed that the Gadget Show 2017 may not go ahead. I can only hope that another venue may decide to take over the show which has been both informative & entertaining. I believe this is an opportunity lost for the fans like me & all gadget freaks like me as well. Hope this helps change someone's mind.

Hi Nigel. We too are sad that the information is somewhat lacking, as we have exhibited at the show for a few years now, and looking forward to exhibiting again if the organisation of Gadget Show Live gets sorted. As soon as we hear anything we will be letting our subscribers know, so be sure to join our mailing list. :)
