The Top Christmas Films to Brighten Up Your Christmas

The Top Christmas Films to Brighten Up Your Christmas

When it’s Christmas time, there’s nothing better than staying in with the family and watching a great movie with a hot cup of chocolate. With so many Christmas movies out there and so many of them on TV it can be hard to choose which ones to watch.

To brighten up your Christmas this year we’ve handpicked some of the finest Christmas films for your viewing pleasure.

Home Alone

Home Alone

The original that spawned four sequels in the Home Alone franchise, the first Home Alone movie is still the best. Starring a young Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, if you haven’t seen any of the Home Alone films before then you’re definitely missing out on some classic catchphrases.

Featuring a pair of crooked burglars eager to get their hands on expensive goods, Kevin McCallister must fend for himself when his family accidently leave him at home. With plenty of funny scenes and laugh out loud moments, Home Alone will have you and your family in stitches all the way through.

Elf

Elf

Starring funny man Will Ferrell as an over the top human elf named Buddy, Ferrell really shows off his funny side throughout the film with plenty of hilarious scenes and a great story. After discovering he isn’t actually an elf, Buddy ventures to New York City in search of his parents. What he discovers is a new found love for his family and teaches how to share the love and save Christmas.

If you’re looking for a top quality family film to watch this year then Elf should definitely be on your list. Like Buddy always says, “The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear!”.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Nightmare before Christmas

With the amount of shopping required for Christmas, sometimes it can feel like a nightmare! This Tim Burton classic might seem dark and miserable, but it’s actually filled with plenty of catchy songs and a gripping story. Combining Halloween and Christmas, the film tells the tale of Jack Skellington, a resident of Halloween Town who accidentally discovers a portal to Christmas Town.

After seeing the new holiday, Jack decides to celebrate it back in his hometown with some terrible consequences. If you and your kids enjoy singing, then this is the best Christmas film to sing along to! With countless songs you’ll be sure to have a blast this Christmas.

The Grinch

The Grinch (2000)

Starring another funny man Jim Carrey, and based on the classic book of the same name by Dr. Seuss, the Grinch tells the story of a green creature who hates Christmas. With incredible visual effects transporting you in an entirely different world, the Grinch is perfect in every single way.

Loved by kids everywhere, the Grinch not only tells a valuable Christmas tale, but also has some funny scenes that will have you in stitches. If you haven't already seen the Grinch then be sure to cross it off your list this year.

Die Hard

Die Hard

Although being listed as a Christmas film is debatable, you can’t deny that it’s a great film. Starring Bruce Willis and the late Alan Rickman, this Christmas film is probably best watched alone without the kids. Set at Christmas in Los Angeles, police officer John McClane takes on a group of highly organised criminals led by their leader Hans Gruber.

There might not be any Santas or Christmas trees, but at least there is snow! If you’re not a fan of the traditional Christmas style movies then you’ll love Die Hard. With it’s twisting plot and brilliant cast you’d be mad not to give this one a watch this Christmas.

Jingle All the Way

Jingle All the Way

Although Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t exactly known for his comedies, this film is definitely worth a watch. With plenty of memorable quotes such as “Put that cookie down!” Jingle All the Way will remind you of what it’s like to do your Christmas shopping.

The film star Arnold as Howard Langston a dedicated dad who is trying his best to get the sold out Turboman for his son. Similar to the modern day craze for Hatchimals, Howard looks everywhere for the toy and does everything possible to give his son the best Christmas. If you’d rather chuckle at someone else's misfortune this year then this film ticks all the boxes.
